The Literary Corner Hosts Interview Child Abuse Survivor

Join ‘The Virtuous Women’, Dr. Taffy Wagner and Ms. Bettye Jamerson, co-hosts of the Literary Corner podcast, this Monday, November 20, 2006 for a powerful interview with author Charity Gustovic as she recounts how her faith in God brought her out of depression and torment after being abused as a child. Later in the hour the show hosts talk about author promotion and the power of speaking from your personal experience.

Author Charity Gustovic offers child abuse survivors hope and the key to healing in her book ‘I Can Do All Things through Christ Which Strengtheneth Me’. Charity wrote the book, not from the position of an authority figure on the topic of abuse, but from her personal experience as a victim of sexual molestation who survived it and found healing through her relationship with God.

“You know I had a struggle with myself. Because for twenty-seven years, you know, I had myself convinced that at times I was doing all right on my own. Then all in one moment I was shown that I wasn’t doing okay at all…,” comments Gustovic. Ms. Gustovic speaks to her audience through her poetry and addresses the pain, anger, confusion, and sense of abandonment she felt growing up and how she came to find healing as an adult.

Later in the show the Virtuous Women switch gears to discuss low-cost methods non-fiction authors can use to promote themselves online and offline to create awareness and position themselves experts in their field.

Public Speaking

Join ‘The Virtuous Women’, Dr. Taffy Wagner and Ms. Bettye Jamerson, co-hosts of the Literary Corner podcast, this Monday, November 13, 2006 to learn about the importance of communicating effectively to an audience as a speaker.

Non-fiction authors need to think of themselves beyond the scope of just being a writer. “When you write that first book you need to think in terms of being an expert that will teach workshops and seminars, and make speeches. You are a speaker as well as an author,” comments Dr. Taffy Wagner.

There are many things to keep in mind when making a speech or presentation. One’s facial expressions and voice tone need to complement and work in concert to present unity between the speaker and their message. “You need to be very aware of the non-verbal messages and signals that you are sending while you speak,” comments Ms. Jamerson, “it is a good idea to practice speaking in front of a mirror or even video tape yourself speaking so you can see how you come across to an audience.”
